2019 Club Race Dates

The Club organises a number of races throughout the year.  This week we had our John Mcinally Race, and we have already held our Spring Handicap - if you enjoyed them and would like to come along to our other races or if you missed them and are keen to make sure that you attend the next one, here are the dates for your diary:

Twin Peaks  - Tuesday 18th June - working in pairs, the team with the fastest combined time to get to the top of both Dundee Law and Balgay Hill wins.  Ged's hill sessions will pay off for this race!

Auchterhouse Hill Race -  Thursday 15th August - trail shoes are recommended for this race up Auchterhouse Hill

Club 10k Championship - The male and female club 10k champions are decided at the Forfar 10k race on Sunday 18th August.  Entries are open at Entry Central.  It's billed as 'fast and flat' and we always have a great DRR turn out.

Our Autumn Handicap - Thursday 29th August - is the same idea as the Spring Handicap - but the route is reversed.

Club Half Marathon Championship - Male and female champions are the fastest DRR runners at the Glen Clova Half Marathon on Saturday 9th November.   Entry opens on Entry Central at 9pm on Monday 19th August and the event sells out very quickly, so set a reminder to make sure you get in.  Again, there is normally a large DRR contingent at this race and numerous PBs are set!

Santa Run - the last DRR race of the year is on Tuesday 10th December.  It's a fun team run and fancy dress is encouraged.

Summer Social Event

Every year, we hold a summer social event incorporating a relay run, food, and good company. Its become a highlight of the DRR calendar, and we would love to have as many members and members' families along as possible this year too. Its a great way to get everyone together, no matter what your normal running preferences.

This year's summer social will be held on Saturday June 22nd - so put it in your diaries!

The event this year will be held in Camperdown park. We will be starting with an 8am run for the early morning risers, followed by Camperdown parkrun, which we'd love everyone to come to. After parkrun, we have planned a series of loops, incorporating both trail and road, and with longer and shorter distances. You can do as little or as much running as you want.

In between the runs, we are planning on having some food, possibly a BBQ, and games.

We're working on all the exciting details just now, so will have more ifo soon, but please keep the day free and come join us!

Complying With Race Rules

As highlighted in the Club’s Code of Conduct, it is essential that members abide by all rules which are issued by race organisers. One of the most important is that race swaps should not take place unless permitted by the organisers and, if they are, having followed whatever transfer process they set out.

There are a number of reasons why unauthorised transfers shouldn’t take place, including:

  • Most races require a note of any medical conditions for a runner, which would be referred to if someone took ill during a race – with a swap, they may refer to the wrong information, which could have disastrous consequences

  • Impersonation of one runner as another could invalidate race insurance, leaving the runner exposed should an incident arise

  • Race results will also be invalidated

  • Runners have the potential to be banned from that race or more widely (some organisers will consider an outright ban for both runners from all of their races).

The Club would like to reiterate the importance of this rule. The unauthorised transferring of numbers reflects on the Club as well as the runners involved and cannot be tolerated. Any members found to be doing so may be made subject to the Club’s disciplinary process, the potential consequences of which include expulsion as a member.

Please don’t run that risk for yourself. After all, a race is just a race. However keen you are to take part, it is likely to be run next year, and so please ensure that you comply with this important rule.
