Runners' Runner

Each year, the club members vote on the runner of the year. There is no set criteria, it's up to members to choose. It may be someone who has encouraged them, inspired them, made a big improvement or otherwise achieved something special during the year.

For 2024, the committee has decided to share all the nominations and the reasons for them, so that everyone can read about some of the inspirational runners we have in the club and the kind words members have said about them. You can find them in the PDF file below.

John McInally Race

This race, held in April each year, is named after one of the early members of the club. Thanks to Gill Hanlon for providing the following text:

John had always been a great sportsman, boxing and football as well as running. In his younger days, he ran the Ben Nevis hill race many times and was running well into his 70s. John was always supportive and encouraging to everyone in the club. In 1987 he decided that he would like to donate a trophy to the club. He proposed a route starting at Camperdown House, out the main gate, Cupar Angus Rd, Templeton Rd, then route as we know it to Birkhill returning to Camperdown House via Coupar Angus Rd. For traffic safety, the route was altered to start and finish at Clatto a few years later. In the early days, John would come in person to present his trophy, but unfortunately he passed away a few years ago.
